Whether you're looking to enhance your autumnal decor or simply want to engage in a fun craft, this DIY is both affordable and enjoyable.
These cozy sweater pumpkins can be styled in various ways to complement your home. Place them on a mantle alongside candles and fall leaves for a rustic look, or arrange them in a basket with other fabric pumpkins for a soft, inviting centerpiece. They can also be nestled among books on a shelf or used as a charming table setting accent. Opt for colors that blend with your existing decor or choose contrasting hues to make them pop.
Cozy Sweater Pumpkin
Materials
An old sweater (preferably knit or cable-knit)
Scissors
Needle and thread
Polyfill stuffing
Jute twine or yarn
Cinnamon stick or twig (for the stem)
Hot glue gun (optional)
Directions
Cut a sleeve from the old sweater to the desired length of your pumpkin. The larger the sleeve, the larger the pumpkin.
Turn the sleeve inside out and sew one end shut using a needle and thread, creating a pouch.
Turn the sleeve right side out and fill it with polyfill stuffing until it reaches your preferred level of fullness.
Gather the open end of the sleeve together and sew it closed, pulling the thread tight to form a ball shape.
Wrap jute twine or yarn around the pumpkin horizontally and vertically several times, crossing at the top, to create the segment lines of the pumpkin.
Tuck a cinnamon stick or twig into the top center as the stem. Secure it with hot glue if needed.
Fluff and adjust the stuffing as needed to ensure the pumpkin holds its shape.
Variations & Tips
To customize your sweater pumpkin, consider using sweaters of different textures and colors. Cable-knit patterns add extra dimension, while bright colors can bring a vibrant touch to your decor. For a more whimsical look, add felt leaves around the stem, or use buttons or beads to embellish the pumpkin's surface. You can also experiment with different sizes by using various sweater parts, such as the body or collar, to create a collection of pumpkins in different shapes and dimensions.
