DIY Giant Faux Spring Nest
Materials
40 brown paper grocery bags
1 large shallow plastic kiddie pool
Hot glue gun with glue sticks
Scissors
Optional: Faux eggs or bird sculpture for decoration
Directions
Begin by cutting each brown paper grocery bag into long strips. Aim for approximately 2-inch wide strips.
Twist each strip tightly to form a rope-like texture. This can be done by holding one end and twisting the other until the strip holds its shape.
Using the hot glue gun, start by attaching the end of a twisted strip to the outer rim of the kiddie pool.
Continue to glue and wrap the twisted strips around the pool, ensuring each layer is snug and covers the plastic base completely.
Layer the strips unevenly to give a more natural, nest-like appearance. Alternate directions and angles as you weave.
Once the entire pool is covered and you achieve your desired thickness, secure the last strip with additional glue.
Allow the glue to dry completely before moving the nest to its final location.
Optionally, place faux eggs or a bird sculpture inside the nest for added effect.
Variations & Tips
For different variations, consider using different colors of paper bags to create a more colorful nest, or paint the finished nest with weather-resistant spray paint. You can also experiment with size by using a different base, such as a larger or smaller pool. Additionally, incorporating natural materials like twine, jute, or real twigs can add more texture and complexity. To make the nest more functional, consider lining it with a soft cushion to create an outdoor seating area or a cozy spot for pets.
