Three-Material DIY Modern Cookbook Stand

Materials
3 rectangular clear plastic takeout containers
Quick-setting concrete mix (about 5 lbs)
Plastic drop cloth
Mixing bucket
Stirring stick
Cooking spray or release agent
Sandpaper (medium and fine grit)
Metal L-brackets (2 pieces)
Directions
Prepare your workspace by laying down a plastic drop cloth to catch any spills.
Spray the inside of the plastic takeout containers with cooking spray or a release agent to ensure easy removal of the concrete once it sets.
Mix the quick-setting concrete in a bucket according to the package instructions, stirring until you achieve a smooth, wet consistency.
Fill each of the three containers with the concrete mixture, tapping them gently on the surface to remove any air bubbles.
Insert the metal L-brackets into the concrete in two of the containers, ensuring they are positioned to hold a book at a slight angle once set.
Allow the concrete to cure fully, following the recommended time on the concrete mix package.
Once set, carefully remove the concrete pieces from the plastic containers.
Sand any rough edges with medium grit sandpaper, followed by fine grit for a smooth finish.
Assemble the stand by positioning the two L-bracketed concrete pieces as the sides and the third piece as the base, securing them together.
Place your completed cookbook stand in a desired location and display your favorite cookbook.
Variations & Tips
Experiment with different shapes and sizes of containers to create a stand that fits your specific needs. You can also tint the concrete with pigments to add a splash of color that complements your kitchen's decor. For added texture, consider embedding small stones or glass pieces into the surface of the concrete before it sets. If you prefer a softer finish, coat the cured concrete with a sealant for a polished look.
