This DIY project repurposes old car tires into stylish outdoor seating, offering an eco-friendly solution to tire disposal. By transforming these rubber items into chic patio poufs, homeowners can enhance their outdoor spaces with functional and aesthetically pleasing furniture. Perfect for those looking to add extra seating without the expense of buying new furniture, this project marries sustainability with style.
This finished DIY pouf seamlessly integrates into outdoor spaces, complementing various styles such as modern, bohemian, or rustic farmhouse. Its neutral tones from the natural sisal rope blend well with greenery and outdoor elements, while its round shape adds a soft contrast to the linear forms of typical patio furniture. The pouf can function as both a seat and a side table, making it a versatile addition to any patio or garden area.
Sisal Rope Outdoor Pouf

Materials
2 old car tires, of the same size
Natural sisal rope, approximately 200 feet
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Heavy-duty scissors or a utility knife
Plywood, cut to fit the tire diameter
Outdoor fabric (optional, for added cushion)
Staple gun, if using fabric
Clear outdoor sealant (optional, for added durability)
Directions
1. Clean the tires thoroughly to remove any dirt or grease.
2. Cut the plywood into two circles that fit snugly inside the tire openings.
3. Place one plywood circle on the ground, stack the two tires on top, and place the second plywood circle on top of the stack.
4. Begin wrapping the sisal rope around the tire stack, starting from the bottom. Use the hot glue gun to secure the rope at both the start and every few inches as you wrap.
5. Continue wrapping tightly and evenly until the entire outer surface is covered with rope.
6. If desired, cut a round piece of outdoor fabric to cover the top plywood surface. Secure it with a staple gun underneath the plywood.
7. For additional durability, apply a clear outdoor sealant over the rope surface.
8. Let the sealant dry completely before using the pouf outdoors.

Variations & Tips
For a more colorful look, consider dyeing the sisal rope before wrapping it around the tires. Alternatively, use different types of rope, such as jute or cotton, for varied textures and colors. To enhance comfort, add a soft foam cushion under the fabric on top. For increased durability, especially in humid climates, opt for marine-grade rope and a more robust sealant. Customize further by painting the fabric top with outdoor-safe paint to add patterns or designs that reflect your personal style.
