Flannel Strip Woven Memorial Frame

Materials
Worn flannel shirts - 2 or 3, different colors or patterns
Wooden frame - 8x10 inches, without glass
Scissors
Hot glue gun
Backing board - same size as the frame
Directions
Cut the flannel shirts into strips approximately 1.5 inches wide and 12 inches long.
Remove the glass from the frame, if any, and set it aside.
Use the hot glue gun to secure one end of a flannel strip to the top edge of the backing board, leaving the rest of the strip hanging loose. Repeat until the entire width of the board is covered with vertical strips.
Weave a second set of flannel strips horizontally through the vertical strips, alternating over and under to create a woven pattern. Adjust the strips to maintain even spacing.
Once the weaving is complete, secure the ends of the horizontal strips to the back of the board with the hot glue gun.
Trim any excess fabric from the edges to ensure a clean finish.
Place the woven board into the frame, securing it in place with the frame’s backing clips.

Variations & Tips
For a different look, try using flannel shirts in a single color for a more uniform appearance, or mix in strips of denim for added texture. You can also experiment with different frame sizes to create a series of woven frames that can be displayed together as a cohesive gallery wall. Adding embellishments like buttons or small fabric flowers to the frame's surface can personalize the piece further, staying true to the original concept while adding an extra layer of detail.
