Transform your old, leaky garden hose into a functional and stylish outdoor mat. Instead of discarding hoses that have seen better days, repurpose them to create a durable mat perfect for wiping your feet after gardening or entering your home. This simple DIY is not only eco-friendly but also adds a unique touch to your outdoor space.
Place the finished mat at the entrance of a garden shed or by the back door. It can also be used as a decorative piece in a patio setting, complementing rustic or modern garden furniture. Its earthy tones from the hose material will blend seamlessly with natural wood and stone elements, while its sturdy design offers a practical solution for muddy boots.
Garden Hose Outdoor Mat

Materials
Old garden hose, approximately 50 feet
Heavy-duty zip ties, approximately 20
Scissors or a utility knife
Directions
1. Cut the garden hose into four equal lengths using scissors or a utility knife.
2. Take one length of hose and coil it tightly, starting from one end and working towards the other, forming a circular shape.
3. Use zip ties to secure the coil in place, evenly spacing them around the circumference to ensure the coil holds its shape.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with the remaining three lengths of hose.
5. Place the four coiled hose sections side by side in a 2x2 formation to create a rectangular mat.
6. Use additional zip ties to connect each coil to its neighboring coils at the points where they touch.
7. Trim any excess zip tie ends for a clean finish.

Variations & Tips
For a more colorful mat, consider using hoses in different colors or painting the hoses with outdoor spray paint before coiling them. This can add a vibrant touch to your outdoor decor. Additionally, you can experiment with different shapes such as hexagons or ovals by adjusting the coil sizes and arrangement. Opt for decorative zip ties in matching or contrasting colors for a playful accent.
